CELTA-qualified teachers – come and teach English somewhere genuinely different.
Moving to another country is exciting. It’s also a big decision.
So rather than simply telling you how wonderful Guayaquil is, we’d like to give you a realistic picture of what it means to work and live here and give you the opportunity to meet the people you’ll actually be working with before you make the move.
International House Guayaquil is looking for enthusiastic, professional English language teachers to join our international team.
Why IH Guayaquil?
You won’t just be coming to Ecuador to teach English. You’ll be joining International House, one of the world’s best-known networks of language schools, with a strong focus on professional standards, teacher development, and quality language education.
At IH Guayaquil, we want teachers to have real opportunities to develop beyond the classroom. Depending on your interests and experience, there are opportunities to get involved in:
- Teacher development and CPD
- In-House DELTA Training Pathway:
- Year 1: Free Delta Module 1 exam preparation course
- Year 2: Free Delta Module 3 preparation course
- Upon finishing your 3rd year with us: 50% financial assistance toward Delta Module 2 for teachers who decide to stay long-term
- Peer observation and mentoring
- Cambridge exam preparation
- Speaking examiner training
- Materials development
- Course and syllabus development
- Teacher-led workshops
- Action research and professional projects
- Presenting and sharing practice
Whether your long-term goal is to become a senior teacher, examiner, teacher trainer or materials writer -or you simply want to become a better classroom teacher – we want to support that development.
But what is it actually like to work here?
We don’t want to give you a glossy version of the job.
You’ll teach a range of learners and levels, work with experienced colleagues, and become part of a genuinely international team.
You’ll also have opportunities to contribute your own ideas.
We are interested in teachers who enjoy experimenting, sharing ideas, learning from colleagues, and continuing to develop professionally.
Moving to Ecuador? Talk to us first.
We understand that moving across the world for a teaching job can feel like a big leap. That’s why we’re doing recruitment a little differently.
Before you accept an offer, shortlisted candidates will have the opportunity to have an informal online chat with current team members. You’ll be able to ask questions about:
- The school
- Teaching and workload
- Students and classes
- Guayaquil
- Accommodation
- Cost of living
- Transport
- Social life
- Ecuadorian culture
- What surprised teachers after moving here
- Anything else you’re wondering about
No question is too mundane. We’d rather you arrive knowing what to expect than discovering everything after you land.
And when you arrive…
We want the first few weeks to be about settling into your new life.
New international teachers receive practical support with settling in, including:
Before arrival:
- Information about living and working in Guayaquil
- Accommodation guidance and advice
- Practical relocation information (Note: We do not provide financial assistance with relocation or flight costs)
- An informal chat with current teachers for shortlisted candidates
When you arrive:
- 1 week of free accommodation on arrival
- School and academic orientation
- Introduction to the team
- Support with practical questions
- Opportunities to meet colleagues socially
During your first weeks:
- Regular check-ins
- Academic support
- Opportunities to observe and learn from colleagues
- Introduction to the wider IH community
Because the hardest part of moving abroad isn’t necessarily the teaching. Sometimes it’s simply arriving somewhere you’ve never lived before and knowing nobody. We want to make that easier.
And then there’s Guayaquil.
Guayaquil is Ecuador’s largest city and a major gateway to the country’s extraordinary diversity. It’s a city of tropical weather, food, music, Spanish, parks, restaurants, and a lively local culture – with Ecuador’s Pacific coast and some of the country’s most spectacular destinations within reach.
Living in Ecuador means that your weekends can look very different from your working week:
Mountains, Beaches, Rainforest, Colonial towns, Islands, Volcanoes.
There is a lot to explore.
But we don’t expect you to arrive already knowing everything about Ecuador. You’ll have colleagues who can help you discover it.
