Job Description 

POST TITLE: Assistant Director of English (General and Executive English) ANNUAL SALARY: £33,640 – £40,000 per annum (depending on experience) ANNUAL LEAVE: 30 days + 8 days public holidays WEEKLY HOURS: 35 per week (to be worked on a rotational shift basis) REPORTING TO: Director of English LINE MANAGER FOR: Teachers

Purpose of job:

To ensure that our English language department provides high quality teaching and to support the Director of English and academic management team to:

Provide academic leadership and innovation within the English Language department (General English and Executive English) Ensure excellence in product and service delivery Create a superior student-centric learning environment Ensure academic processes and procedures provide best practice in relation to accrediting bodies

Job description The following duties provide a general outline only and may need to be revised in order to meet the changing needs of the service.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Work with the Director of English to ensure the continuous and progressive development of the General English and Executive English provision, contributing to strategy, driving change and development objectives.
  • To provide appropriate support and guidance to learners / course participants to ensure that they have a positive learning experience.

  • To provide educational and administrative support to assist staff in maintaining high educational and professional standards.

Main Duties To manage the following:

To work with the Director of English to build a highly engaged, high performing and student-focussed teaching team with an appropriate range of expertise, through efficient recruitment procedures, robust induction, personal development plans, ongoing CPD and inspiring leadership (with support from the CPD Manager). To implement agreed standards for student progress and learning outcomes; to ensure that the academic progress and needs of the students are being met. To ensure that all the academic requirements as stipulated by the relevant regulatory and accrediting bodies are implemented and maintained in the General English and Executive English school. To set up and oversee quality control systems, including external and internal audits and inspections; client feedback and admin systems; developing action plans based on client feedback to drive continuous improvement; responding to client issues and complaints; compiling and circulating client feedback to teachers Course delivery, both educationally and administratively including effective day-to-day management of staff and students (e.g., student consultation hour, student induction, dealing with student complaints and queries etc). To provide support, innovation and leadership (with the Social Programme organiser) in the management and design of projects and events which enhance the student experience To work to deliver new products and improvements to existing ones successfully to secure future business in these areas; to assist Sales and Marketing in the production of tenders and the promotion and acquisition of business for the department. To provide support to the Executive Centre Manager in course management and delivery. Managing the resources for the General English department including the online portal, Guided E-Learning To teach, where required and appropriate, in General English / Executive English / Teacher Training for up to 10% of contracted hours Timetabling, staffing duties payroll (shared with the Director of English) Deputise, where appropriate, in the absence of the Director of English Any other appropriate duties that may be required

Person specification The following skills and experience are essential:

Experienced ELT professional. Excellent inter-personal and communication skills. Supporting individuals to develop and maintain their performance Ability to work flexibly and as part of a small team. Ability to organise and manage workload. Confidence to take initiative and work autonomously. Resilience – able to see complex tasks through to completion.

Excellent people management skills including:

Developing productive working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders Recruiting, selecting and retaining colleagues (shared with the Director of English) Allocating and monitoring the progress and quality of work Supporting individuals to develop and maintain their performance Providing learning opportunities for colleagues Leading teachers’ meetings Building and sustaining collaborative relationships with external professionals and organisations

The following skills and experience are desirable:

Experience of pre-service teacher training (e.g. tutoring on Cambridge CELTA course). Experience of educational management.

The following qualifications are essential:

Undergraduate degree. Cambridge DELTA (previously DTEFLA) or Trinity College Diploma in TESOL.
