About this Course - Teacher Refresher Course

Who is this course designed for

This course is designed for secondary school teachers of English Language, who want to explore new methodologies and new approaches to teaching. We want you to go back home with activities and practical ideas you can build into lessons with your own students.

Entry requirements

You must be over 18, and have a B2 level (approx.) in order to participate fully in this course. Apart from that, we are keen to welcome all teachers!

Course objectives & assessment

Course objectives are to:

To review language and practice skills in English
To share teaching ideas with professionals from around the world
To experiment with different methodologies and materials
To learn about Irish culture and using culture in the classroom

There are no formal assessments, but it is a practical course. All successful course attendees will receive an IH Dublin attendance certificate.

Your time commitment

This is a full time course for 2 weeks, with 25 hours of lessons per week.

I have been teaching English as a Foreign Language since 1997 and trained as a CELTA tutor in 2006. Before this, I trained as a secondary school teacher and taught a wide variety of different subjects in the year after I qualified.

To successfully complete the course, plan your time carefully and make sure you allow enough time to plan your lessons, and really focus on feedback from your tutors and your peers as this will help you improve from lesson to lesson.
