Job description

We are looking for a proactive EFL teacher with enthusiasm for teaching young learners. The position would suit a team player that is flexible, independent, keen on professional development and sharing ideas. The teaching timetable is varied, ranging from very young and young learners to adults, from general English to exam classes, on-site as well as off-site courses.

As some teaching takes place online, all our classrooms are equipped with a laptop and a projector and as registers and reports are completed on-line, good computer skills are essential. The school is small, we usually have about 5 full time teachers, which enables the DoS to provide the teachers with plenty of individual attention and a tailor- made professional development programme.

Our teachers teach an average of 20 hours a week across a variety of contexts. Most of the teaching will be done off site in a state school context. There are also 4 hours of staff meetings, workshops and other duties per month. We work a 5 day week, with most of our teachers working on Saturdays from 8.30 am to 1.30 pm

The school has got a staffroom, 5 classrooms, all equipped with a whiteboard and CD players as well as with a laptop and a projector, a computer room with 6 computers and a one-to-one teaching room. Working for a small school has got the advantage that you will get tailor made support from the DoS, have the opportunity to teach a variety of levels and age groups and that you will be working very closely with and learn from your fellow teachers. To feel comfortable in this working environment you need to be flexible, co-operative and ready for a challenge.

Life in and around Palermo

As Sicily’s largest city, and Italy’s Capital of Culture in 2018, Palermo is full of exciting and memorable experiences. Here, you can get your fix of art and culture by viewing the Sicilian sculptures at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and watching some world-class opera at Europe’s third largest theatre, the Teatro Massimo.

You can also see some UNESCO-listed puppetry at the Opera dei Pupi. Talented puppeteers make the traditional handmade string puppets act out scenes from the battles of Spanish and French soldiers against dragons and devils. It is a fascinating glimpse into Palermo’s history from the 13th century.

Of course, you are in Sicily, so you’re going to eat well wherever you go. Make sure you visit Capo, one of Palermo’s most iconic food markets, with wheels of cheese and huge swordfish. Don’t forget to try arancini (rice balls filled with meat or cheese) and anything with aubergine in. Once you’re truly stuffed with delicious food, grab a gelato and take a walk around the historic centre to enjoy the city’s beautiful architecture.
