Job Description

International House Valladolid is looking for two teachers to join our team. This is a full time opportunity which pays 1250 Euros per month NET.

The job includes on-site and off-site teaching. It includes teaching Young Learners and adults including general English, exam preparation, business English and one to one classes (although not necessarily all of these). The working week is from Monday to Friday with the exception of two Saturdays for which two Fridays off in lieu are provided. The position involves some early morning and late evening teaching as is standard in many private language schools in Spain. A typical timetable includes 24 hours of teaching (per week) although payment is not affected where a teacher teaches less and travel time for off-site classes is taken into account. Where a teacher teaches less than 24 hours for a period of time they may be asked to teach up to 26 during busier periods IF they have been under hours in previous weeks.

There are a number of pair holidays including any Spanish national holiday and Easter holidays.

The school is made up of a professional and diverse teaching staff including a non-teaching DoS and two senior teachers who are available to provide help and support with teaching and non-teaching related matters (for example help can be provided with looking for accommodation and obtaining relevant Spanish administrative documentation such as an NIE number, Spanish healthcare card and Spanish police background checks).

About you

You will have a C2 level of English, and if English is a second language you will have an internationally recognized C2 level certificate. You will have a CELTA or equivalent (we do not recognize online TEFL certificates). You will have a minimum of two years of EFL teaching experience and will have experience of teaching Young Learners (essential). You will be enthusiastic, organized and professional. You will have a clear criminal background check or be able to obtain one with assistance. You will have two checkable references. Ideally you will speak some Spanish but this is not essential. Ideally you will have a driving license and be prepared to do some driving but this is not essential. Ideally you will have the IH Young Learner certificate but this is not essential.

About the school and city

About the School

IH Valladolid has two centres, one in Parquesol and one in Plaza Universidad. Students take classes here, and teachers also travel to teach in local schools and businesses all over the Valladolid area.

Our methodology is to teach the language and not just a page from a coursebook. We do not use any set coursebook for any of our students so that they really do get objective driven classes that really do improve their English.

All of our teachers are qualified and all of our teachers are experienced. Additionally, our teachers regularly receive training sessions and attend international conferences to ensure we are delivering the most effective modern lessons possible.

Our facilities are modern and up to date. We have 15 well equipped modern classrooms, several interactive white boards, a DVD library, and a very well equipped library of teaching materials.

Life in and around Valladolid

Valladolid is approximately 200km north of Madrid in Spain’s wine growing region. Valladolid is known for its fine wine and food. The region of Castilla y Leon is a meat lovers paradise with Valladolid being famous for suckling lamb, Segovia and Salamanca for suckling pig, and Avila for its fantastic steaks.

Valladolid has various cultural buildings including former homes of Columbus and Cervantes, a Cathedral, a multitude of churches, museums and art galleries. It has a large student population so there is also an abundance of bars, restaurants and nightclubs to suit all tastes and budgets.

Valladolid has cool winters and warm summers so teachers should expect lower temperatures in December/January before the temperatures start moving upwards again.

The cost of living is generally cheaper than in other parts of Spain. Public transport is very affordable and with a bono card a single trip costs only around 75 cents.
