About the school and city

About the School

Braga has a population of approximately 190,000, is the capital of the Minho district and one of Portugal’s religious centres with a church on every corner. However, the city centre is quite compact and easy to get around on foot and is full of affordable and bustling cafés, bars and restaurants. We have Portugal’s oldest cathedral, lots of Gothic and Baroque architecture, a beautiful theatre and a modern exhibition centre that hosts concerts and international events. And of course, Braga’s iconic landmark, Bom Jesus, a baroque church and sanctuary on a hill above Braga. But Braga isn’t just history: it’s Portugal’s “youngest” city with a thriving, modern university that welcomes students from all over the world. In recent years Braga has become a destination of choice for a growing number of international residents.

Braga is ideally situated, within easy reach of Gerês national park, long sandy beaches and other cities like Porto, Guimarães and Aveiro. A direct highspeed train gets you to Lisbon in 3 and a half hours. There are direct buses that link Braga to Porto airport (50 minutes).
