Life in and around La Spezia
La Spezia is a city in the Liguria region of northern Italy, right in the stunning area of the Cinque Terre.
It is one of the major Italian military and commercial harbours, located between Genoa and Pisa on the Ligurian Sea. Although the city is essentially a naval base, the surrounding coast and countryside are extremely beautiful and has lately developed into a renowned Cruiser port.
The town of Sarzana where our secondary school is based is a charming old market town just 15 km east of La Spezia, on the border with Tuscany. It has a population of about 20,000.
Both towns are well placed strategically for visiting other interesting places, such as Florence, Genoa, Pisa, and Parma and are only one hour from the nearest ski resort.
