Job Description 

Full-time English Teacher to Adults, Children & Teens

The full-time position entails 27 teaching hours weekly. The position starts on August 10th, so the applicant should plan to be in Monterrey around that time, if possible earlier.

Types of courses the teacher can expect to be engaged in:

  1. General English courses at our premises or online.
  2. General or Business English courses at our premises, online or in-company.
  3. General English courses for children and teenagers.
  4. Exam preparation courses. These include, but are not limited to, Cambridge Main Suite, IELTS, and TOEFL.
  5. Private courses of varied nature.

 

  1. Teaching includes: Maintaining class records online daily (this is a must), setting and marking homework; reporting to International House at the end of every month (or at a shorter frequency if required) details of the course such as attendance, grades, cancellations, scheduling make-up lessons; uploading attendance daily on our portal.

Other duties included in the monthly salary are:

  1. Doing placement tests; invigilating exams, applying mock exams; marking mock exams; substituting for other teachers when required; sending details of worked hours at the end of every month as required by the IH Monterrey Director of Studies or School Director; attending workshops, seminars when required; taking training when required and other academic duties as assigned. However, the teacher must attend in-house Professional Development Sessions and meetings as scheduled regardless of the number of teaching hours the teacher is doing at any given time.
  2. If English is not the applicant’s first language, proof of language ability is required (preferably a Cambridge certificate / IELTS report), though others can be accepted.

Requirements

  1. You must have a CELTA, Trinity TESOL, or equivalent initial teaching qualification
  2. You must have full mastery of English across all 4 skills to CEFR C2/IELTS band 8
  3. You must have experience teaching Young Learners
  4. The teacher needs to be ready to teach a wide variety of classes as outlined above.
  5. The successful candidate will be confident in the use of technology for educational purposes. This includes teaching online classes, using digital platforms and resources, conducting research, creating teaching materials, participating in online training courses, and collaborating with colleagues on the development of group projects. The ability to use digital platforms and online resources effectively is required.

 

  1. Applicants should be comfortable teaching both adults and young learners, as the role includes regular classes with children and teenagers.
  2. Important note: The salary detailed is actually in MXN (Mexican Peso)  – we are fixing a website bug to show this in the system.

 

 

Benefits

  1. The position pays a fixed salary irrespective of the number of hours taught.
  2. International House Monterrey provides accommodation for the first three nights on arrival to allow the teacher time to find a place to settle down.
  3. The school will help the teacher find a suitable place to live. This help will be in the form of doing the talking with landlords/landladies if the teacher is not a speaker of Spanish. We will be driving the teacher to see places once appointments have been made.
  4. IH Monterrey will take care of the teacher´s work permit provided the teacher supplies all documents needed. In the second year, the teacher will take care of the renewal with their own funds.
  5. After the three-month probationary period, the teacher will be eligible to financial support from IH Monterrey to take professional development courses on OTTI.
  6. If the teacher has the required professional qualifications and experience required by Cambridge, they will be eligible to train up as a Cambridge Speaking Examiner.
  7. There is an end-of-year bonus.
