About the school and city

INTERNATIONAL HOUSE BUCHAREST is a market-leading foreign language center offering business language courses, as well as YL courses through its children's divisions, English Kids Academy and Die Deutsche Akademie Bucharest.

We are also the only foreign language center in Romania with 12 points of excellence out of a maximum of 12, in the independent inspection of the Evaluation and Accreditation of Quality Language Services (EAQUALS) in the UK, a result that attests to the high quality standards of our work.

We are a very large school and have both adult courses (mostly in-company) and YL courses (over 2000 YLs attend our classes yearly). Our main headquarters – where teacher training courses take place – has always been in the same location in the central area of Bucharest and very easily accessible by local transport (bus, tram, underground). We also have other two centres in Bucharest.

The Romanian Ministry of Education and Research has officially acknowledged IH Bucharest’s merit in providing training to its teachers. IH Bucharest has been running teacher training programs such as IHC and IHCYLT for almost 20 years. However, its Teacher Training Centre was officially set up in May 2019, and it is one of the fastest-growing Cambridge-accredited centers around. Currently, we are: – the only provider in Romania of a Cambridge-moderated training course for teachers of YLs which has a teaching practice component – one of only two CELTA-accredited centers in Romania – the only center accredited to run all three modules of the DELTA course in Romania For more information, please visit https://celtaromania.ro/

Bucharest, the capital of Romania, is a dynamic city where historical charm blends with modern urban life. Often referred to as the "Little Paris" of Eastern Europe due to its elegant architecture and cultural sophistication during the early 20th century, the city today is a mix of influences.

Key highlights include:

Historic architecture and landmarks: Bucharest boasts grand boulevards, beautiful Orthodox churches, and iconic structures like the Palace of the Parliament, one of the largest buildings in the world. The city is also home to the Romanian Athenaeum, a symbol of the country's rich cultural life. Parks and green spaces: Cişmigiu Gardens and Herăstrău Park offer tranquil getaways in the heart of the city, making it vibrant and lively but also surprisingly green.

Cultural and artistic hub: With theaters, museums (like the National Museum of Art), and galleries, Bucharest offers a diverse cultural scene. It is a growing destination for creative industries, nightlife, and innovation. Contrasts between old and new: Bucharest is a city of contrasts, where restored pre-World War II buildings stand alongside communist-era blocks and modern skyscrapers. This mix reflects its complex history.

Vibrant lifestyle: The city is known for its bustling café culture, trendy bars, and diverse food scene, with influences from across Europe and the Balkans. Overall, Bucharest is a city with deep-rooted history, evolving urban spaces, and a thriving cultural life, making it a fascinating destination.
