CEFR level A1

Aim of the Game

Learners practice asking for information about costs and times of flights.

Concept

In this role-play activity, players attempt to travel around the world in the quickest time possible and for the least money.

Note: This game starts and finishes in Buenos Aires. If you want you can change the starting location to one of the other destinations.

Suggested Procedure

  1. Ask your students questions like ‘What time does the class start/finish?’ What time do you leave for work? etc. Revise telling the time if necessary.
  2. Give students the gap fill role play. Choose a strong student and play out the role play and get the other students to fill in the gaps.
  3. Give each pair a Travel Agent card and get them to ask and answer questions about the flights.
  4. Tell the students they are going to try and go around the world as quickly as possible and as cheaply as possible. Some of the students will be travel agents and some will be tourists.
  • Set up the 4 travel agents one in each corner of the room
  • Give each tourist a map and tell them they must travel east around the world. They must write down their itinerary and costs as they go.
  • They should go to all of the travel agents in order to find the best deal.
  • Set a time limit of 10 or 15 minutes to do this.
  • Remember, players must make sure they don’t leave an airport before they actually arrive!
