Life in and around Madrid

Madrid is famous for its cultural treasures, the world famous Prado and Reina Sofia art galleries, the ancient Hapsburg portico-lined Plaza Mayor, and of course its exciting and vibrant social life, delicious Spanish food – and sunny skies.

Madrid is in the centre of Spain, surrounded by peaceful mountains, historic towns and royal palaces. There are 3 UNESCO World Heritage Sites within easy reach - El Escorial, the 16th-century monastery-palace; the elegant historic town of Aranjuez; and the university town of Alcalá de Henares. Just south of Madrid is the beautiful hilltop city of Toledo and to the north are all the attractions of Segovia, with its magnificent Roman aqueduct and fairy-tale castle.

Studying at IH Madrid

Our centre is right in the heart of the city, about a 15-minute walk from Puerto del Sol and is well-connected to all modes of transport. Travelling around Madrid is easy by metro , and the nearest station is Alonso Martinez, just a two-minutes walk to International House Madrid in Calle Zurbano. We are also near bus routes 7, 40, 21, 14, 27 and 150.

If you are coming from abroad, you can get to the school in about 30 mins from Barajas airport by metro.

We are a large centre, with lots of classes teaching English, Spanish, French and German, as well as teacher training. In the classes, the corridors or the cafe, there is always a hive of activity.  We have free WIFI throughout the building and a great library to prepare your written work.
