IH Riviera Maya

Riviera Maya, Mexico

IH Riviera Maya is in a purpose built location, with a central courtyard with its very own juice bar! Inside you are in a quiet oasis, sheltered from the hustle and bustle outside.

The neighbourhood is very safe, and the weather is warm and sunny all year long. We are in one of the best neighbourhoods in the town of Playa del Carmen near downtown, shopping malls and good restaurants and we are only 3 blocks away from the beach! This is a typical caribbean resort with beautiful white sandy beaches and tempting clear warm waters.

All the staff at the school do what they can to welcome all students and trainees, and make their stay as enjoyable as possible.

Life in and around Riviera Maya

Playa del Carmen is a marvellous Mexican Caribbean resort just 60km south of Cancún. It has a dazzling white sandy beach, turquoise sea, and a huge range of bars and restaurants. While here, trainees can take part in a range of activities, including: visiting Cozumel island and snorkelling to observe the starfish in their own environment; sky-diving and jet-skiing; scuba-diving in different locations; swimming with sharks in deep crystalline waters; Xcaret natural park; Xel-ha amusement park; Tulum ruins and snorkelling to enjoy the beauty of sea turtles; visiting Chichen-Itza to learn about the Mayan history and enjoy the beauty of one of the seven modern wonders.

Studying at IH Riviera Maya

Flying to Riviera Maya means Cancun Airport then a direct bus ride of about an hour.  As a large holiday destination, there are direct flights to Cancun from practically any city in the US, Canada, and several in the rest of Latin America, as well as from many European cities (e.g. Madrid, London, Amsterdam, Paris, Rome, Barcelona, Lisbon, etc.).

(IH Riviera Maya also offers transportation to our guests at the school residence to and from the airport.)

Getting around Playa del Carmen is easy thanks to the mix of local and public transport. There are city buses all over the city, with a stop just a five minute walk from the school. There are also the Colectivos, a minibus public transport service all over the Riviera Maya area. You can take shuttles to cities nearby and use the two ADO Bus stations (several routes).

The nearest places around the school to get some lunch or a coffee are Starbucks, A-cacao, Chez Celine, Bisquets Obregon, Bio-Natural, La senda Vegana and Sushi-ken, all five minutes’ walk away. The closest (within five blocks) supermarkets to the school and residences are Plaza fiesta alegría, Walmart, Mega Soriana and Super aki.

Accommodation

We have our very own purpose built student residence, just a 5 minute walk from the school. There are communal areas and kitchens, where you can relax with other students from around the world - or you can rest and work in your own room.

If you would like to arrange your own accommodation that is fine as well - we'll happily give suggestions on best areas, distance to the school, transportation options and potential routes.
