IH Rome Accademia Britannica

Rome, Italy

IH Rome Accademia Britannica is right in the heart of Rome, close to the Colosseum, San Giovanni in Laterano and the main railway station (Stazione Termini). If you are interested in exploring Rome, this is a great base.

We started teaching English to local adults and children more than 50 years ago. Our teacher training centre was founded more than 30 years ago mainly to cater to the needs of the local schools. It expanded to become the largest in Italy, in response to the growing demand for training courses in both State schools and private institutions.

IH Rome has been successfully training teachers for over 40 years and our team of six resident trainers have worked in a variety of contexts throughout the world.

Some members of staff have been with the team nearly all that time! Norman, Giovanni, Ian and the whole team, still enjoy welcoming all their English and teacher training students into the school.

Over the years we have helped more than three thousand candidates from all over the world to start their careers in English teaching both in Italy and abroad. And we are looking forward to the next three thousand!

Life in and around Rome

Come on, it’s Rome! From the Colosseum to St. Peters, from Piazza Navona and the Pantheon to the Roman Forum and more than 900 churches, the Eternal City is an artistic treasure like no other on earth. One could spend months visiting popular places in the city. Lively students’ neighbourhoods are San Lorenzo, Testaccio, Pigneto, Trastevere, and Ostiense.

According to legend, the city was founded in 753 BC by Romulus and Remus, the orphaned twins who had been suckled by a she-wolf. One of the most remarkable aspects of Rome is that the depth of its history remains visible to the eye, its successive periods of greatness sometimes even represented in the same structure. Many of the city’s marvels lie within easy walking distance of the training centre.

Studying at IH Rome Accademia Britannica

Rome has two international airports (Fiumicino and Ciampino). There are excellent train and bus connections to and from both airports. The main train station (Stazione Termini) is a 15-minute walk from the training centre.

The best ways to get to IH Rome Accademia Britannica are via Metro A: Manzoni o Vittorio Emanuele; Metro B: Colosseo; or Metro C: San Giovanni. You could take a bus (16, 51, 81, 85, 87, 360, 571, 714, or 850), or take Tram 3.

Café culture is a way of life here. The nearest café for a great Italian coffee is just around the corner from the school. But we are located in the heart of the city, full of cafes and restaurants, so you'll have a huge choice.

All good food is the best price when its in season - and the tastiest! Eating is first priority in Italy and we are never disappointed!

Accommodation

IH Rome Accademia Britannica can help to arrange self‐catering accommodation in single rooms, if needed, for our students on full time courses. These may be with host families (where you can experience real Italian home life) or in an apartment.  Typically you should budget to spend around €500 for the four weeks of a CELTA course. Remember however that Rome is a busy city, and there will be many other options for accommodation - at a whole range of prices.
